Jags vs. Bucs (My Viewing Notes)

As I was watching the third preseason game for my favorite team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, I took notes on what I saw... Here's a pros and cons list of what I noticed...

Pros:
1) Offensive Line
-The o-line played particularly well in protecting the qb, giving him a decent amount of time to throw. Brad Meester at center will be the anchor for the line. Eben Britton saw his first action in the preseason, and he was a bit rusty. But he should be ready for the season opener.

2) The Rushmen
-The front four of the defensive line was penetrating the line with a high success rate, especially with the run, limiting the Bucs to very short gains via the run. They also collapsed the pocket and tried to force sacks or at least bad throws.

3) Linebacker Depth
-With all 3 defensive starters resting, the backup LBs showed up in fine force. They offered great run support for the d-line and in zone coverage. Rod Wilson and Russell Allen will be good assets for the team if there are injuries

4) Rashard Jennings
-Even though the ground game was limited, Jennings showed that he is a good complement to MJD, and he showed of some of the best "hands" on the field, catching everything thrown to him.

5) David Garrard
-David played very well, going 22 of 27, 187 yards, but the one glaring interception. I saw glimpses of 2007 David, but he regressed by locking onto a receiver in the endzone, which was read by Rudd, and the ball was picked off. He did hit 8 different receivers, so that should inspire a little confidence moving forward.

Cons

1) Secondary play
-From the get go, the Bucs were able to drive down the field through the air with a BACKUP QB like it was no problem. From Derek Cox slipping in coverage to the lack in safety play, it was not a good night for the secondary. Reggie Nelson did a little to help his cause, but will it be enough for him to make the roster?

2) Scotty McGee
He had a good 43-yard return, but on punt returns, he did not do a good job. He has to learn to Fair Catch some balls when the defense is barring down on him.

The team is starting to come together but the play at the safety positions are crucial to having a successful year. The run game will kick in on September 12th against Denver.

Let me know what you saw... maybe you agree or disagree. Leave me your comments.
