Jaguars Claim Former Bills QB Trent Edwards
My thoughts:
I think this move is a good move with very low risk for the Jaguars. You bring in a guy who has a few years of experience starting and as a backup, and you don't have to give him a huge contract. Also, you have some depth at the QB position, and most importantly, a player who has the potential to push current starting QB David Garrard. I'm not saying he's should be the starter, but it should light a fire underneath #9.

Quarterback Critic- David Garrard vs. Phillidelphia Eagles
- The man just does not appear to have the ability to throw the ball accurately down field. And it's not from a lack of trying, I don't think he can see himself doing it.When he's under center, and a run play is called, he doesn't audible or change the play at the line when the defense is showing 8-9 people in the box. That's hard to believe that you don't see a blitzing linebacker standing in front of you.
- He has a very predictable passer; three step drop, slant pass to #1 receiver, or three step drop, and dump pass to Jones-Drew. If I can tell just by your formations, you better believe defensive coordinators, who get paid to watch for that, can see it too.
- To be able to effective in this new NFL, you have to throw downfield. It opens up your running game and helps you control the clock. It works hand in hand.
I want to root for Garrard to be successful, but if he can't step up and play like the big shot NFL quarterback he given the opportunity to be, he's going to lose that job to the eventual rookie that comes into camp next off-season.

Jaguars/Eagles Recap: Nightmare at EverBank Field
There is a lot you can say about this team; the quarterback is no good, the offensive line is garbage, we have no safeties, and the list continues. But this loss falls squarely on two problems, the lack of secondary help and the ineffectiveness of David Garrard. Vick tossed 3 touchdown passes, 2 to Deshaun Jackson and 1 to Jeremy Maclin. The Eagles were able to produce explosive plays downfield, in which the Jaguars secondary could not keep covered. The defensive line actually played a good game and were effective until the third quarter, when they fell apart. The offense just could not move the ball up the field through the air, gaining only 54 passing yard the ENTIRE game.
And the worst part is that #9 is to blame for that. He made extremely bad reads of coverage, he never audibles out of run plays when there is obviously 8-9 men stacking "the box", and he just made terrible throws. He's already on the hot seat with the fans, and I'm sure that seat just got warmer after that performance. Next week, the Indianapolis Colts come to town. If the Jags can't recover from this loss and come out swinging (and with a win) next week, theres no doubt that there will be major changes on this team in the next few weeks.

Quick Hits @ Half: Jaguars/Eagles
•David Garrard needs to audible out of run plays when there is 8-9 men in the box. They are daring him to throw. Do it.
•The defense as a whole is doing a great job containing "Running Vick". But "Passing Vick" has burned them twice. Better coverage has to be played on Jackson and Maclin.

Keys to the Game: Florida vs Kentucky
•No More Botched Snaps! The exchanges between Pouncy and Brantley need to be near flawless. Not necessarly against the Wildcats, but for preparation for Alabama Oct 2.
•Contain the Wildcat's offensive players! Believe it or not, this team can put up points. Stopping Derrick Locke(RB) and Mike Hartline (QB) will be key. Locke ran for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns last week against Akron.
•Force Turnovers! Florida has a highly ranked defense and Kentucky has not turned the ball over at all in 3 straight games. A mix of blitzing packages and zone coverages should do the trick.
Florida should win this game, predicting a score of 35-17, provided they follow these keys to victory.

Weekend Review - September 18-19
This was a strange weekend for football this weekend, with mixed results for the Florida Gators and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Florida faced off against Tennessee, giving the Gators their first true test against a conference opponent. They, once again, had a slow start. The offense had a difficult time moving the ball, gaining only 94 yards, in the first half. The Gator defense played solidly for the most part, but both of Tennessee touchdowns came on blown coverages. I think what sparked the Florida team in the third quarter was a called fake punt on fourth down, which Omarious Hines took the snap and ran for 36 yards, and set up the Gators for the go-ahead touchdown. Florida pulls out a 31-17 win and moves to 3-0.
Now the Jacksonville Jaguars had a different experience when they traveled out to San Diego to play the 0-1 Chargers. Jacksonville has had some bad luck recently traveling out the the West Coast, and this trip was no different. The Jaguars secondary, which has been a cause for concern since the off-season, showed itself as Philip Rivers shredded it to pieces, throwing for 334 yards and three touchdowns. The Jaguars offense was not without blame because there were 5 turnovers. QB David Garrard threw 4 interceptions and was benched in the fourth quarter. The final to that game was 38-13.
My Thoughts
Florida needs to let Brantley throw the ball to open up the running game. He’s fine under center and is getting better in the spread shotgun. But you don’t have to keep all of these dink and dunk passes. Go deep. He has the arm.
That Gator defense is scary good, but they HAVE to stick to their assignments. Another game with blown coverages for TD will guarantee a loss against a better team.
Jaguar fans don’t need to hit the panic button yet. Put it away.
Jaguars secondary will be addressed in the draft next year, but they have to play better than that. They did force a few turnovers, but in a game where it was wacky and crazy, you have to control yourselves.
Speaking of crazy, how do you not cover Antonio Gates? Crazy.
David Garrard showed the inconsistency that has plagued him from being a very efficient quarterback. He’ll bounce back, but believe a first round pick will be used to find his replacement.
Next week, Florida plays Kentucky in the Swamp and the Jaguars face the Eagles at EverBank Field. I’m currently working on being at The Swamp on Saturday to cover that game and the same goes for the Jacksonville game on Sunday.
