Quarterback Critic- David Garrard vs. Phillidelphia Eagles

Critical Thoughts of David Garrard

  • The man just does not appear to have the ability to throw the ball accurately down field. And it's not from a lack of trying, I don't think he can see himself doing it.When he's under center, and a run play is called, he doesn't audible or change the play at the line when the defense is showing 8-9 people in the box. That's hard to believe that you don't see a blitzing linebacker standing in front of you.
  • He has a very predictable passer; three step drop, slant pass to #1 receiver, or three step drop, and dump pass to Jones-Drew. If I can tell just by your formations, you better believe defensive coordinators, who get paid to watch for that, can see it too.
  • To be able to effective in this new NFL, you have to throw downfield. It opens up your running game and helps you control the clock. It works hand in hand.

I want to root for Garrard to be successful, but if he can't step up and play like the big shot NFL quarterback he given the opportunity to be, he's going to lose that job to the eventual rookie that comes into camp next off-season.
