Jaguars Claim Former Bills QB Trent Edwards

Out of the few teams looking to shore up some help at quarterback, the Jacksonville Jaguars were able to claim former Bills QB Trent Edwards on Tuesday afternoon. He was released by the Bills Monday night and passed through waivers relatively quickly, where the Jaguars won the claim. Now this doesn't mean that he makes the team, but it does give the team the right to fly him down and give him a physical. Assuming that goes well, then Jacksonville takes over the remaining part of his contract, which his base bay is somewhere around $1.65 million. The Jaguars are only responsible for $1.3 million.

My thoughts:

I think this move is a good move with very low risk for the Jaguars. You bring in a guy who has a few years of experience starting and as a backup, and you don't have to give him a huge contract. Also, you have some depth at the QB position, and most importantly, a player who has the potential to push current starting QB David Garrard. I'm not saying he's should be the starter, but it should light a fire underneath #9.
